Art Odyssey 2008 presents a collection of
over 20 artists, both established and nouveau. More than forty pieces of artwork will be on display and for sale from March
27 - 30, 2008 at Studio 333 and afterwards via online purchase. The collection represents the Indian art sphere's reaction
to post-colonial liberation and post-millennium globalization. Indian society and culture is in the midst of a fascinating
polarization of traditional domination and modern liberalization. As a result, Indian art is caught in a never-before-experienced
range of debates between the liberal and the conservative, the indigenous and the international. The reaction to globalization
has provided a strong stimulus for artists of all generations. Art Odyssey 2008 captures a slice of this movement by selecting
paintings, sculptures and sketches that have contributed to the recent buzz and energy surrounding India's contemporary
art scene. Art Odyssey was founded by Nirva Patel, a collector based in Mumbai, India.
A Boston-bred lawyer by trade, Nirva relocated to Mumbai in December of 2006. With her American perspective on art coupled
with her first-hand exposure to the Mumbai scene, Nirva decided to launch her own venture in order to make South Asian art
more accessible to U.S. residents. Nirva works closely with Gallery Art & Soul of Mumbai in order to select the most inspirational
and provocative pieces available in India's art market.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each
work will be donated to The Akshaya Patra Foundation.
